Hey, I just upgraded

I just upgraded this blog to Bloo alpha build 6, so if things look funny press your refresh button (lots of stylesheet work was done).

  1. Looks much better Bill! Also, you may want to look at the following web hosting providers:

    Server Beach

    Rackspace

Both are own by the same provider and both offer dedicated servers. They are both out of San Antonio. Another to look at is C I Host out of Dallas. It all depends on what you can afford. Having worked in the hosting business I can tell you that dedicated server is far more expensive than shared servers.

  2. Thanks for the welcome Bill.

I do like the look and feel of your site. It is uncluttered and the tones are easy and warming to the eyes. You can see a difference between your first version and this revision.

I am curious to know what you are scripting in.

    Keep up the efforts!

  3. You know…if you REALLY wanted to do something helpful, you’d figure out a template system to handle all the work on a theme to revise it to the users wish, even if he/she doesn’t know CSS/php/MySQL… Just something that pulls the pertinent info out such as colors (editable, of course), sidebar sizes, etc. The new Sidebar Widget plugin for WP is awesome…

  4. Well, I’m hoping to move that direction (not to come up with a sidebar widget because I’m not really into copying WP functionality verbatim 🙂 but working out ways to allow users to create templates on the fly, etc.

Currently you don’t have to know PHP or MySql to create a theme – you won’t see any of that because presentation is separate from the functionality. But CSS is definitely a nice skill to have if you’re wanting to setup a Bloo template. It will be awhile before I get beyond that.

WP is awesome – no doubt about it. If I can garner even a tiny community of Bloo users I’ll be thrilled, but I have no illusions about taking over the WP spot.

Want to be a beta tester? 🙂

I checked out the sidebar widget of WP. Actually, I’m a bit closer than I thought (they stole my idea!!! Heh, just kidding 🙂

Currently you can edit the sidebar (or really any portion of the Bloo look and feel) on the fly and insert Bloo “SnapOns” which are basically widgets.

I will be documenting this soon and getting my alpha testers working on it. It works now but still needs polishing. Some of them (like AJ at Way.outofthebloo.com) have done some sidebar editing already. No PHP, CSS or MySql needed! 🙂
