Note: the philosophy of Bloo is to keep the base product relatively straightforward, and provide added functionality in the form of self-contained Extension SnapOns
Here is a list of the current Bloo featureset:
- Role-based security at the object level (in other words, security is pervasive)
- Those with posting privileges can create and edit posts.
- Static pages can also be created
- Readers can comment on posts
- Posts can receive trackbacks
- Trackbacks can be sent to other blogs.
- Posters can modify the date and time of posts
- Optional email notification of new posts and/or comments can be setup
- Comes with BlooNews configured and enabled, allowing blog posters to stay on top of the latest Bloo News
- Posts can be set to "Private", meaning only logged in users can read them
- Comments and trackbacks can be turned off or on at a post level or at the blog level.
- Comment and trackback moderation, spam and troll destruction, etc.
- Administrators have full control over the look and feel of the blog, via the overlay editor. All visual element templates can be edited on the fly, with a non-destructive edit.
- Themes control the look and feel. Administrators can create themes on the fly, cascade themes from other themes, and select the default theme. Bloo comes installed with a number of pre-made Themes.
- Optional theme-selector for blog readers to pick their favorite theme
- Supports time zones. Dates are stored internally at GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) and translated on display to the blog's time zone.
- Supports a Blogroll (or "Bloogroll" as we like to call it).
- Configurable blogroll categories.
- Multiple Spam Control Extension SnapOns
- A Bloo blog can be a group blog, because multiple users can be setup, at various security levels.
- You can set multiple post categories per post.
- You can recover a lost passwords through a "Lost your password?" feature
- You can search Posts and Static Pages through the Bloo Search facility.
- Easy to use installation and upgrade programs
- All input and output components of the system are XML-based and separate from the code
- New functionality can be added via Bloo Extension SnapOns. A large number of SnapOns are delivered with the based product
- Ability to create sub-blogs through the use of the Bloo Community extension SnapOn
- You can turn your blog into a WIKI using the Bloo Wiki extension SnapOn
