Sigh

Our iMac G5, which we’ve had just under a year, died tonight. If you turn it on, it runs for a few minutes and then, poof, it croaks.

I’m pretty sure it’s just the power supply.

We’ll find out tomorrow when we take it to the Apple store. I *think* it’s covered under the one year limited warranty.

Not complaining, just reporting 🙂

  1. He’s working hard 🙂

Plus the dude’s now singing every week in church. He did a mercy me song week before last that was really good (“here with me”)

  2. Hopefully one of the geniuses at the Apple store will be able to fix it quickly.

Maybe the new Intel hardware will make the 3 hour kill-me trip to the Galleria at xmas time a faint memory, but until then keep on thinking different.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that…

  3. Even if you tell Rob . . .

His main thing is Mac OS vs. Win2K or WinXP or Microsoft, in general. A Power Supply is something that could easily go out in almost any machine and isn’t really unique to Apple. Because of this, you wouldn’t be able to sway him very much . . .

  4. Well, keep in mind that I’m not swayed much either 🙂 – I like my iMac!

But mainly because it’s based on Linux. Just the other night (I think the night before it died) I was thinking about how much more solid the Mac feels than my Wind’ohs machine. It just always runs, doesn’t get slower over time, etc.

But the power supply barfing after only 11 months is kind of disconcerting (as is having to wait a week to get it repaired).

I hope Linux continues to make inroads into the Wind’ohs market. It’s just better.
